Women of Brookstone

I will be honest with you: I am not the most disciplined person in the world. I forget things. The day slips by, and sometimes I watch a comfort movie over doing chores. Because of that, I greatly admire someone who is known as being “disciplined.”

Living out God’s calling on our life is rarely easy. Sometimes in our lifelong walk with our Father, He invites us down paths that seem terrifying, and we doubt our ability to press on. But here’s the truth: we don’t walk through our own strength, or our own ability, or our history, or our personality. We do it because God is at work in and through us. It’s about the strength of His hand. The power of His Spirit. Not ours.

Infertility is a difficult thing to explain because so much of it happens quietly. From the outside, life often looks normal. You go to work, attend church, celebrate friends and family, and continue showing up. But internally, there can be a deep ache that never quite leaves.

Among the pages of Exodus, there is a nugget of encouragement for the wife. Her name wouldn’t jump out to you as one to remember, and truthfully, her name is often forgotten. Her name is Zipporah, Moses’ wife.

Children are like sponges. They hear and absorb everything. Actions and attitudes can be learned from others at a very young age. Depending on what is being shared, it can be good or bad.

I am reminded of the midwives who feared you in the first pages of Exodus as Moses’ birth story unfolds. The exact words “fear of God,” are used to describe their faith.
