Changing Your Trajectory

²³ The steps of a man are established by the Lord,

when he delights in his way;

²⁴ though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong,

for the Lord upholds his hand.

I like big words. I am a word nerd. I subscribe to Dictionary.com and get the word of the day, every day. Sometimes the word sticks and I use it all day long. Sometimes, they pass on by. The bigger and harder the word, the more I like to use it and say it. This word, “trajectory,” came by and has stayed for quite a while.  

On December 29^th, 2025, my trajectory changed. Something I didn’t see coming, something totally out of my control. It took me by surprise. I was caught off guard. But there is one thing I know for sure: God was not taken by surprise. He was and will always be in control. God changed my trajectory.   

A trajectory is the curved path an object follows as it moves through space, such as a ball thrown in the air, a rocket, or a planet orbiting the sun. It describes the entire route from start to finish. It is also commonly used figuratively to mean the future direction or course of someone's life, career, or a project.

A life trajectory refers to the long-term, unfolding path of an individual’s experiences, decisions, and development across various areas like career, relationships, and personal growth. It acts as a "trajectory of life," combining current actions with future goals to determine a general direction. 

A life trajectory includes:

• Directionality: where you are heading, rather than just where you are right now, often described as a "projected path."

• Patterns & Transitions: multiple interconnected paths (e.g., career, family) that are punctuated by life transitions or events.

• Intentionality: actively designed by identifying desired outcomes and making steps that align with that path.

• Influence of Forces: influence by various "forces" or environmental factors. 

Sometimes, life throws us a curveball (or a curved path), but that curveball has to go through Jesus first. He sometimes has to do that to get us on the path that He has specifically picked out for us. He changes our direction in whatever form He needs to get us where He wants us. I would not have chosen this path, but He knew that it would change my trajectory for my good.   

Looking back at these last 5 months, I wouldn’t change one single minute. It has brought me closer to the One that changed it in the first place!  

I love the scripture that I shared above. Psalm 37:23-24: The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

He has been with me every step of the way. Even in the hardest of places, I felt His presence, His peace, His love. There is no greater place to be.  

If you feel that your trajectory is about to change, lean in to what God is showing you. Hold fast to His teachings — He is already at the end of your trajectory, and He is spurring you on!
